A career as an electrician involves specializing in designing, installing, and maintaining electrical systems. From planning projects to wiring and receptacles, there are plenty of duties involved in this field of work. Here at our Vaughan campus, you will be able to acquire the necessary skills, safety training, and hands-on practice to turn you into one of the most trusted and sought-after electrical apprentices in the industry. Our courses are designed to give students the right mix of theoretical and hands-on training to make them competent apprentices. At Skilled Trades College, we ensure that our students are in the lab 60% of the time to hone their skills through practical applications.

Plumbing Pre-
Apprenticeship Program

Beginning a rewarding career in the plumbing industry starts with having the right skills and education. Choosing a training centre known for producing proficient apprentices makes all the difference. At Skilled Trades College of Canada’s Vaughan campus, our students will learn to specialize in installing and maintaining systems used for potable (drinking) water, sewage, and drainage in plumbing systems. These are some of the other skills they will acquire as well:

• Installing, repairing and maintaining pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing equipment
• Welding, connecting, and leak testing
• Interpreting blueprints Supervising apprentices

Intro to Home
Renovation

With Ontario's booming construction industry and high demand for skilled trade workers, it has never been a better time to undergo training and pursue a career in home renovation. Skilled Trades College of Canada’s Vaughan campus offers an Intro To Home Renovation Program that teaches the basics of framing, drywall, taping, footings, vapour barrier, insulation, masonry (brick-laying) rough-in electrical, rough-in plumbing, and all relevant general construction work. Upon graduating from this program, students will have received all the fundamental, practical hands-on training in a simulated on-the-job setting and all the relevant safety certifications.

These are the following documents required to enroll in our pre-apprenticeship programs:

▪︎ A copy of your High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.

▪︎ In case you do not have a High School Diploma, you may be required to pass an entrance exam.

Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG)

The Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG) is a taxable cash grant worth $1,000 per year or level. This is for a maximum lifetime amount of $2,000 per person. Learn more about eligibility for this grant here.

Tradesperson’s Tools Deduction

The Canada Revenue Agency allows tradespeople to deduct a portion of the cost of their eligible tools and associated equipment purchased for work purposes. Generally, the maximum deduction allowed is $500.

Apprenticeship Completion Grant (ACG)

The Apprenticeship Completion Grant (ACG) is a one-time taxable cash grant lifetime amounting to $2,000 per person for registered apprentices. This applies to registered apprentices who meet the following requirements:

▪︎ successfully complete an apprenticeship training program

▪︎ obtain a journeyperson certification in a designated Red Seal trade.
